🔶 #81: 'Stop-doing' lists, co-leadership, and engaging older readers

Welcome back to the News Alchemists newsletter!

Hello and welcome back to the News Alchemists newsletter!

And a special first welcome to new subscribers from ANP, Chicago Public Media, Amarillo College, and to all of you brave souls working independently.

I'm about to say something obvious, but I'll say it anyway:

Better journalism – and more people-centric journalism – won't just happen through good intentions and well-written stories. Shocking, I know.

They are not that sexy, but smart processes, effective leadership, and clarity about roles (and the right roles) are just as needed.

That's why I'm quite pleased that this week's links turned out to be quite process-oriented, with stories about co-leadership models, stop-doing lists, and the differences and overlaps between product and audience roles.

Tell me: What's the non-editorial decision, process, or strategy that made the most positive difference for your organisation?

I'll include some of your replies (anonymously if you want) in the newsletter next week. See you then 👋

P.S.: In the last edition, I asked if you prefer the old format of the links I share in each newsletter or the new one: 70% win for the new format, so it stays. The rule is simple: when you see some orange text in the email, you can click on it.
