🔶 #77: A global report on impact in journalism
Hello, and welcome back to the News Alchemists newsletter!
And a first welcome to new subscribers from La Nación, the Globe and Mail, Fondazione Tobagi, and all of you brave souls working independently.
Last week I received a message that made me smile, from someone who had come across an interview I had given to a Dutch publication:
I really like your idea of human-centered journalism. Is that actually the right translation? In Dutch it was translated as audience-oriented journalism? I also came across the term audience-centric journalism when I googled it. I’m guessing this means there isn’t really one established term for it yet?
You're guessing correctly, kind stranger on LinkedIn. And that's just the tip of the iceberg: I usually refer to it as people-centric journalism and – broadening the scope a little further – I argued before that it's essentially the same as talking about change-centric journalism.
Whichever formulation you choose, dear reader, this newsletter is all about that: learning together how we can consistently put people’s needs and curiosity, and the benefit of society, at the centre of everything we do.
Link after link, I want to provide the resources and inspiration you need to move more and more in this people-centric direction.
Sounds good? Then enjoy this week's links, and bear with me as I take some weeks off writing to become a married man and explore beautiful Cornwall (🍯🌙). There are more than 400 links in the archive to keep you company while I'm away.
See you in September!

Reminder: Help Display Europe build cross-border journalism distribution that actually works for you
My friends at Display Europe believe that millions of readers across borders would pay for your journalism – if only they could access it in their language and with relevant context. They're building the infrastructure to make that happen and would love your input through a short survey to help them get it right:
